If you're looking for a special bottle of wine - perhaps for an anniversary, birthday, wedding gift or just because you deserve it, there's a Bordeaux I'd like to share with you.
From the esteemed Medoc region of Bordeaux a major appellation, Pauillac benefits from an exceptional terroir characterized by gravelly hilltops on a clay subsoil ensuring natural drainage and encouraging the vines to develop deep roots - perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon.
Légende Pauillac is made from grapes grown in Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite)’s own vineyards. The wines are made with the same attention to detail as they are for the Grand Vin. Produced from the properties’ younger vines, these are classic , good quality wines. Their structure is less concentrated than their prestigious elders, which allows them to age more quickly, and after just a few months in the bottle, they offer an original, unique style, with the fullness and complexity for which the appellation is renowned. At a fraction of the price of Bordeaux first growths, it offers a lovely introduction to the appellation. The grapes are sourced from Lafite estates and from others in Pauillac, and 40 percent of the wine is aged in oak barrels.
The 2015 Vintage that we have in stock is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot.
The 2015 vintage was characterised by a late bud burst, a quick and uniform flowering which took place under very favourable conditions (low rainfall and above-average temperatures). July was very hot (with a near-heatwave between 30 June and 6 July) and dry (20 mm of rain, like in 2010). August, however, was quite wet (90 mm on average) compared with the past fifteen years. Véraison (end July/beginning August) was quick and uniform. At a Bordeaux level, 2015 is a very good vintage, though marked by a certain lack of uniformity due to the patchy rainfall in August and September.
