Probably like me, you are feeling the impact of not being able to travel right now, and even planning a trip to distant lands is hard to comprehend. The time will come when we can pack a bag and take off to new adventures that await.  But in the meantime, we can visit new places through reading books, preparing exotic meals, and sipping on wonderful wines.

This week we have brought in some wonderful Italian wines to inspire you.  Hailing from the Abruzzo region east of Rome and bordering on the Adriatic Sea, these wines are Italy in a glass.

The two styles of Trebbiano white wines here are perfect with fish dishes, or a plate of sun ripened olives and good crusty bread.

What is Trebbiano?  It is one of the world’s most widely planted grape, especially in Italy. In France, this grape is known as Ugni Blanc. Because of its high acidity, this grape is used in the production of Cognac and Armagnac.

MARRAMIERO TREBBIANO D’ABRUZZO DAMA  $21.99

Light straw yellow with subtle greenish reflections. Fresh floral bouquet with fine fruity notes. Dry and fresh taste.

MARRAMIERO TREBBIANO D’ABRUZZO ALTARE   $36.49   (6 packs)

The Trebbiano Altare di Marramiero wine in the glass has a bright yellow color. Its aroma is ample and intense with citrus and spicy hints. On the palate it is sapid, balanced and with excellent structure and persistence. Aged in both stainless steel and oak barrels, this is a mouthy, rich and versatile white wine.

The Montepulciano D’Abruzzo grape is an Italian red wine grape.  It should not be confused with the Vino Nobile de Montepulciano, a Tuscan wine made from Sangiovese and other grapes.  It is typically dry with soft tannins and often consumed young.  It is a perfect pairing with Charcuterie boards.

MARRAMIERO MONTEPULCIANO D’ABRUZZO DAMA   $18.00

Its colour is ruby red intense with some dark red nuances, it has a good olfactory persistence tending to liquorice flavour. It is rich and harmonious on the palate. It can be served with everything, but it links perfectly with roasted and stewed meat, with salami, ham and cheese."

MARRAMIERO MONTEPULCIANO INFERI      $49.99   (6 packs)

From a selected vine of great importance in structure and full-body comes Inferi, produced in limited quantities. It is aged at least 14/18 months in French and Slavonian oak casks and the following refinement which is done in the bottle complete its maturity. It is a ruby red colour with dark red sparkling reflections. Intense vanilla fragrance with a persistent warm, rich and harmonious taste make it a distinguished and leading wine. Paired with pasta with mushrooms and truffles, with beef and game and mature cheeses, salami and ham Ideally served at temperature of 18°/20°c.  The label depicts “Dante’s Inferno” – so pick up a copy of Dante’s Divine Comedy, put Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on the stereo and be transported!
