MAJELLA VINEYARDS, COONAWARRA, AUSTRALIA Family owned winery specializing in mostly red wines.
MAJELLA MUSICIAN $23.99
Vibrant, unmistakably Coonawarra to smell and taste, bursting with flavours of blackcurrant, mulberry and herbs, and fine, elegant and juicy in the mouth. The wine is quite low in oak, with just a smidge of vanillin showing faintly on the mid palate, but otherwise the brambly, blackcurrant flavours demand all the attention. Fine, silky tannins integrated with the fruit and minimal oak produce an approachable well rounded wine with an extended length. Quite a complex wine!
BESTS WINERY , The Grampians, Victoria, Australia 150 year old vines predominantly Shiraz grapes
BESTS SPARKLING SHIRAZ $37.99 Best’s Shiraz grapes for sparkling wine are picked early in the season, fermented in vats and a small amount of oak barrels. The wine is savoury and of medium body, retaining freshness as well as intensity over time. Best’s Winemaker, Justin Purser, is also a sparkling Shiraz believer, and has instigated his own changes to the sparkling production process, including using aged liqueur muscat from old Best’s casks as dosage liqueur.
HEARTLAND Langhorne Creek, South Australia
HEARTLAND SHIRAZ $21.99 The dark colour preempts a wine of dense, layered black fruit. The aromas of anise and cracked pepper are enveloped in classic blackberry. The glass coating texture gives way to freshness on the finish resulting in a fine balance. The structure imparted by oak and skin contact integrates well with the bright, but intense fruit.
HEARTLAND DIRCTOR’S CUT SHIRAZ - Flagship Wine $35.99
The aromas are surprisingly diverse for such a young wine. Dark fruits envelope spice and herb characters that evolve in the glass. Directors’ Cut Shiraz is enhanced by judicious oak that gives a framework to the generous fruit. The lingering finish is typical of this wine and predicts a long and distinguished future.
HEARTLAND STICKLEBACK RED $17.99 Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz give the wine a rich, savory character and great structure. Dolcetto lends brightness and lift, and contributes spice, tannins and a fresh, crisp acidity to the plate.
HEARTLAND DOLCETTO $21.99 The brightness and depth of Lagrein complement the floral and fruit driven Dolcetto. Deep ruby in colour, it enjoys all the aromas of a garden in Spring. The soft palate offers blackberry, liquorice and violets and a long savoury finish. This is the most versatile wine in the Heartland range for food pairing.
SOME YOUNG PUNKS WINERY MCLAREN VALE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA

LITTLE ENGINES WINES Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, B.C.
The children’s fable of the Little Engine personifies will and determination, a winery dedicated to these same pursuits seemed befitting of the same title and so became, Little Engine Wines.
LITTLE ENGINE CHARDONNAY SILVER $44.99
This vintage exhibits enticing aromatics of stone fruits and poached pear with underlying notes of vanilla and creamy cashews. With only a portion of the pressed juices seeing French oak, the palate is bright with citrus notes and fresh cut pineapple that slowly unveils characteristics of buttered toast with a thin layer of marmalade. This is a beautifully balanced Chardonnay that has encouraged many to re-discover the merits of a well-made Chardonnay.
